CLAIM: "THE MALDIVES ARE SINKING" LET THE DEBUNKING BEGIN.

Thanks to the excellent, ACTUAL science being done on the Maldives...and thanks to Anthony Watts of WattsUpWithThat, this post puts to bed the whole notion that the Maldives are sinking due to sea level rise.

BJORN LOMBORG: A PERSON EVERYONE SHOULD READ!

I not only read him, I lived a surreal moment while on vacation in Italy; I recognized him as he was walking towards me, touring the Colosseum in Rome !! I stopped him and politely asked if he was Bjorn Lomborg-which I knew immediately- he smiled and said "yes, what's your name?" We went on to chat for a few minutes. He's an incredibly nice man. He was happy to have my wife snap a photo of us. Great fun!

Bjorn, if you ever see this post...thank you! And definitely drop a line.

It's constantly frustrating to see/read the likes of National Geographic and other prominent scientific venues getting it wrong, CONSISTENTLY.

This frustration brought me to reread the definition of "science", which in part states that science is: "knowledge gained by systematic study" ...NOT systematic consensus!

From the first Earth Day in 1970:

“Air pollution is certainly going to take hundreds of thousands of lives in the next few years alone,” Paul Ehrlich in an interview in Mademoiselle magazine, April 1970.

Ehrlich also predicted that in 1973, 200,000 Americans would die from air pollution, and that by 1980 the life expectancy of Americans would be 42 years.

“By 1985, air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half...” Life magazine, January 1970.

Most Earth Day predictions turned out to be stunningly wrong. In 1970, environmentalists said there would soon be a new ice age and massive deaths from air pollution. The New York Times foresaw the extinction of the human race. Widely-quoted biologist Paul Ehrlich predicted worldwide starvation by 1975.
